Critical Data Backup Services
Protect your process control investment with a comprehensive program for control system backup and recovery that will allow
you to return your critical process automation system to operational status quickly in the event of a computer hardware or
software failure. Services range from a simple hard disk image backup to a full-system disaster recovery plan. This service
is offered as either a stand-alone service or as an integral part of a Service Agreement.
Overview
The control system backup and recovery service is a customized collection of valuable services provided by REM
Services that enables customers to:
- Maximize control system and process availability
- Ensure regulatory and environmental compliance data is available
- Plan ahead for disaster recovery; and
- Develop manual or fully automated data backup routines
Service Levels
Basic - This option provides the minimum level of services required to ensure the system can be recovered and includes:
- Evaluation of your control system by REM Services and a recommendation regarding the required operating system
files, application files and application data to back up, ensuring successful system recovery. REM develops and executes
the backup routine(s) the first time and performs a restoration of the backups to verify a full-system recovery. Future
backups and backup media storage is then provided by the customer's personnel.
- Optional next-business-day response of REM personnel to assist with system recovery if necessary. This may include
operating system and application software installation as well as data retrieval from customer-provided backup media.
Advanced - This option provides a mid-range level of services and includes everything in the basic package plus:
- REM develops automated backup routine(s), implements the backup routine(s) on the appropriate machines and performs
an initial test to ensure proper backup routine(s) are executed. After the initial verification of proper execution, the
customer's personnel are responsible for ensuring that these backup routine(s) continue executing properly.
- Optional next-day response of REM personnel to assist with system recovery if necessary.
Premier - This option provides a premium level of services and includes
everything in the Basic & Advanced packages plus:
- REM develops automated backup routine(s), implements the backup routine(s) on the appropriate machines and performs
an initial test to ensure proper backup routine(s) are executed. REM personnel visit the customer site quarterly to ensure
the backup routine(s) are executing properly and retrieve a copy of the backup media for storage in the REM Charlotte
office. The customer then monitors the backup routine(s) execution and reports any problems to REM. The customer also
provides on-site storage for backup media.
- Optional same-day response of REM personnel to assist with system recovery if necessary.
- REM will provide periodic restoration verification in our Charlotte office utilizing the incremental backups.
Comprehensive Disaster Recovery Plan
REM works closely with you to evaluate your control system implementation and to develop a comprehensive, site-specific
disaster recovery plan to compliment the above services. This plan is scalable, and you can elect the components you wish to
have REM execute. Below are some examples of the components of a comprehensive disaster recovery plan:
